Several of the detectives in Detective Comics tried their hands at deduction in the old west. Two of them actually were on the range full time. And each showed that such a career consisted of equal parts technique and tenacity to troubleshoot these terrible terrains.
Pow-Wow Smith adopted his famous alias and his forebearer's career as a U.S. Marshal. Buck Marshall lived up to his last name as a range detective.
While the original tales of Smith were evidently set in the modern day, it eventually reverts to the 1800s with a subsequent explanation that these were two separate individuals related to on another. Thus, Ohiyesa Smith was the descendant of the original Smith.
Ohiyese eventually met up with fellow detectives on Earth-One, while Buck like many of his contemporaries on Earth-Two just played by themselves. Which is just fine out in the great wide open on the plainsland of problems.
