A circus strongman of Earth-Two discovered he possessed superhuman strength and endurance equaled by his world's Superman, through mysterious means while being approximately the same age as Kal-L. It was stated that he wasn't born on another planet, although the source of his powers begs one to wonder if he wasn't himself a descendant of Hercules as was his doppleganger Zha-Vam. In any event, Joe decided to embark upon a heroic career... adopting a uniform reminiscent of that worn by Doll Man. Engaged in about twenty-one chronicled adventures before he disappeared when Joe journeyed to Europe to help defeat the Nazi regime. The caped crusader was presumed either killed or perhaps turned by the Spear of Destiny into a pawn of Hitler himself. In any event, Joe never reappeared as himself nor again don his rather scantly clad uniform. Hercules just missed the first membership drive of the All-Star Squadron of his day.
It should be noted that the original Hercules of Earth-Two kept mostly in the background, so his doppleganger's nine documented duels with Earth-One's Superman and Wonder Woman as well as the Sea Devils coupled with three tales of Zha-Vam's aborted career were mirrored by some of the tales involving Joe Hercules on Earth-Two. Both Zha-Vam and Joe Hercules were men who strove to replicate the legend that was Superman, and for a time seemed to come close to succeeding, yet ended up only as footnotes in history.
