The core of today's triads are Ayla Ranza and Red Rogers, two fabulous females who have a few things in common.
First, they are lovely red-heads with spunk to match their potent powers. Second, each lass' powers have a high level of intensity to them. Third, they experienced the loss of their beloved brothers which set them on the course of being sensational superheroines in lands not there own. And finally, they attracted men in their lives, both for good and bad.
Ayla gained her powers alongside brothers Mekt and twin brother Garth from lightning monsters. Red alongside crook Curly McGurk and circus star Swordo joined Roy Lincoln in an attack on Imperial Japan. On their first case together, Lincoln gave the trio the 27-QRX formula which gave Roy as the Human Bomb explosive powers. Becoming his Bombardiers, the quartet had a series of adventures in Japan, whereby Curly turned good and Swordo turned noble while Red tried unsuccessfully to save her brother... but save other innocents instead. Ayla as Lightning Lass helped revive her brother Garth, Lightning lad, who was in a coma... and the duo alongside the Legion of Super-Heroes faced several foes including she and her twin's big brother, now known as Lightning Lord.
While Ayla temporarily became Light Lass, gaining power to decrease the mass of objects and hence lighten their weight, she was involved romantically with fellow Legionnaire Timber Wolf. Red had seemed to have sparks fly between Roy and herself, although like Ayla and Wolf's relationship, it wasn't to last. Eventually, Ayla retired from superheroics as had Red, although Mekt's Legion of Super-Villain teammate Radiation Roy... a rejected Legion of Super-Heroes applicant... kidnapped Ayla and brought her to her evil sibling. During this encounter, Ayla regained her Lightning Lass powers and identity and rejoined the good Legion, even attempting a new romance with teammate Magnetic Kid. Whether Red ever settled down with Swordo, or even Curly, after the war is unknown. Still, both lasses experienced peace of mind, knowing they used their superpowers for the good of others, both in their own lands and far afield.
