Grand Groups Gathering Good Guys and Gals: All-Star Legions

When we dissect the individual members of Earth-One's Legion of Super-Heroes from the 30th century, and Earth-Two's All-Star Squadron from the 20th century, we see some impressive parallels yet distinct difference. Some of the latter had other members, such as the Justice Society of America and Law's Legionnaires, in their midst yet didn't have some of the original Freedom Fighters and independent mystery men of the golden age. And while the former allied itself with the Justice League of America on occasion, only Superman in his younger years was a member of their organization. Now, consider member-by-member from the Legion's perspective:

  • Lightning Lad and Magno the Magnetic Man were each super-charged superheroes, and both perished early in their careers although the Lad was revived thanks to alien ally Proty's sacrifice.
  • Saturn Girl was sometimes a conflicted member but ultimately a leader among the team, although her twin Eviless aka Saturnette used similar mental manipulation versus All-Star Wonder Woman.
  • Cosmic Boy and Black Condor could move objects with their mind while circling the globe effortlessly, both evidently proud of their physique.
  • Triplicate Girl had two allies in Duo Damsel splitting off from herself and a boyfriend in Bouncing Boy, while Little Boy Blue had his two Blue Boy and girlfriend Little Miss Redhead to assist them.
  • Star Boy and Starman harnesses incredible gravitational abilities among other powers, while clad in caped suits reminiscent of the Supermen whom they imitated, tied to astronomical phenomenon in their origins..
  • Dream Girl and Madam Fatale were while haired heroines, well the latter wasn't what "she" appeared, yet they both inspired confidence in getting the job done with their foresight and intuition.
  • Shrinking Violet and Doll Man not only shrank to tiny sizes but proved invaluable as capable of defying gravity while delivering a pint-sized punch against problematic pests.
  • Colossal Boy and Nuklon were the sons of prominent women who bridged the gap between Earth and space, as did these two lad with the ability to grow to massive heights with great strength.
  • Matter-Eater Lad aka Tenzel Kem and Black Condor's predecessor Thomas Wright were high-flying politicians with an appetite for trouble.
  • Invisible Kid and Invisible Hood had the ability to sneak up on anyone thanks to their acquiring formulas that rendered them unseen by all.
  • R.J. Brande and Uncle Sam were the founding fathers of these two teams, and tied to their legacy were the Ferro Lad brothers and twins Johnny Reb and Billy Yank.
  • Mon-El aka Lar Gand and Captain Triumph seemed to analogs of Superman, wearing similar costumes and possessing similar superhuman physiques. Other men mirroring their might were Eltro Gand and Halk Kar who substituted for men of steel briefly.
  • Shadow Lass and Phantom Girl were able to darken the surroundings of friend and foe alike, while effortless navigating through such a blackened bedlam with effortless ease on every occasion.
  • Ultra Boy and Uncle Sam II possessed Superman-level abilities yet could only manifest powers from brief periods of time, and each at times were disembodied phantoms.
  • Phantom Girl and Rose Psychic were capable to phase into the physical and phantom realities as well hence their acquaintance with Mon-El and the Doctor, both just as capable as the guys.
  • Lightning Lass and Red Rogers the Bombardier were two red-haired fireballs, each with potent energy at their fingertips, avenging the deaths of their beloved brothers.
  • Timber Wolf and Sweep Second were a pair of junior league powerhouses gaining their abilities from radiation produced by their father figures.
  • Brainiac Five and Per Degaton exercised their mental might and thirst for power which brought them in contention with the these massive teams as they bent time and space to their wills.
  • Chameleon Boy and Kung Assassin of a Thousand Claws were shape changing champions of discriminated peoples interacting with these superhuman teams.
  • Sun Boy and the Ray each irradiated solar-energies that made them among the mightiest of their teams, blasting heat and light that both dazzled and dazed those who may oppose them.
  • Element Lad and Neon the Unknown were sole survivors generating elemental abilities with ease while carrying on an air of mystery and tragedy which followed them wherever they went.
  • Karate Kid and Silent Knight were two lads gifted in hand-to-hand techniques while in love with their royal girlfriends, Princess Projectra and Lady Celia Penbrook.
  • Shrinking Violet II and Miss America could change their own body's mass to any form, with the former an impersonator and the latter a short term heroine.
  • Wildfire and Human Bomb possessed explosive touch and raw untapped energy that yielded tremendous potential for devastation unless contained in their specialized suits.
  • Dawnstar and Conscience of Man were two fine flying females who could glide through space and time on their sensational wings while tracking they're prey through the cosmos.
  • Invisible Kid and Invisible Hood, Ferro Boy and Johnny Reb, Chemical King and Thunderfoot, Blok and Atlas all had parallels as well while tangentially tied to these teams.

And lest we forget, the role models for these twin organizations and their costumed allies were the Supermen, and men who would be the precursors to these Men of Steel. Superboy was Earth-One's first costumed crusader who originated in that universe. Although a few others migrated to his world from Earth-Two, even they could not match the legend of the Kryptonian lad. At times, individuals such as his best friend Pete Ross and adversary Lord Satanis would make clones of this Boy of Steel for their own purposes, however he was an individual in his own right.

Similarly, Doctor Richard Occult seemed to be a long-lost twin brother to Kal-L of Krypton, and actually preceded Earth-Two's Superman for a few years as he donned a costume similar to his future friend's with powers to match. While mostly sticking to his trenchcoat and combating evil out of the public's eyes unlike Superboy, the Doctor nevertheless made his mark on mankind with his tireless efforts to protect his fellow man.

Both of these mighty males would be recruited into the Legion and Squadron, and serve admirably for years alongside them, inspiring future generations in the course they themselves trailblazed in the early days of superheroes.
