Men of Steel were typically superhumans with strong physiques and durable exteriors, however these cybernetic counterparts filled the bill quite literatlly. While Earth-One had Cliff Steele and Earth-Two had Robert Crane, two men who tragically lost their humanity due to tragedy, were revived to become the Robotman of their respective worlds. Each had heroic careers individually as well as alongside their teammates on the Doom Patrol and All-Star Squadron. Along with tremendous strength and strong metallic frames, they also occasionally incorporated various gadgets which they used in dispensing justice to evildoers.
Project M, a secret government agency which Crane's colleague Charles Grayson worked for during World War II, finalized the G.I. Robot which would like Automan of Earth-One have tales as a completely robotic man. While G.I. Robot eventually left his native Earth-Two for space alongside the Creature Commandos, Automan would remain on his world into the 21st Century wherein he would meet Star Hawkins and his robotic assistant whom he'd life bond with.
