On Earth-Eight, a winged warrior from Canada known as the Flying Fox aided the Americans during World War II. A lad with powerful potential with the ability to fly and project realistic illusions. He was one of a young crop of heroes inspired by the Freedom Fighters, and in a post-Crisis Earth it was the Squadron that motivated him to join.
His counterpart on Earth-One was Man-Bat aka zoologist Kirk Langstrom, who could also fly and see through illusions with his sonar ability. On Earth-Two, it was another Flying Fox in Lou Rex Darrell who glided the currents of air in his plane with his eagle sight guiding him. All three were homages to the Batmen, caped crusaders for justice.

While Darrell did not become a human-animal hybrid like Man-Bat, his mechanical aptitude allowed him to defy gravity in a much more powerful external frame through his specialized plane. Thus through his mechanical aptitude, Darrell as the Flying Fox was able to achieve similar results to those on display through Langstrom's biological research which spawned his Man-Bat alter ego.
While the native Canadian Flying Fox remained a stellar superhero among his peers for years to come, both Langstrom and Darrell fell into less than honorable pursuits bringing Man-Bat and Flying Fox into conflict with the Batmen of their individual Earths.
