Marvelous Manic Magnetic Manipulators

Anthony J. Masters and Tom Dalton were two men who obtained incredible power at the cost of great personal tragedy, which impelled them to become the superheroes known as Orion and Magno.

Orion was the son of planet Apokolip's ruler Darkseid. Traded to his father's mortal enemy Highfather for that man's son Scott Free, he came to be raised on Highfather's world known as New Genesis. Due to this, he was able to temper evil desires inherent in his genetic makeup and became a champion of justice.

Magno was originally an electrical lineman known as Tom Dalton who accidentally electrocuted by a massive charge of electricity and then revived. Realizing he had a new lease on life, he decided to adopt the alter ego of Magno an defend the defenseless.

Orion has control of the astro-force with which he can generate magnetic blasts and pilot his astro-glider, as well as superhuman strength. Magno likewise can emit pulses of magnetic energy and lightning bolts while also allowing him to defy gravity at times. While Orion survived his final battle alongside his New Genesis allies versus Darkseid, Magno himself perished while defending a parallel planet alongside his Freedom Fighters allies.

Female Furies Furiously Fight Fearsome Foes

While the Wonder Women were the standard bearers of powerful female heroes on Earths One and Two, other mighty ladies followed their path. Among these were Barda the Female Fury of Apokolips  and Marya the Giant Girl of Mexico. Each legendary lady possessed superhuman strength and courageous demeanors.

Big Barda was raised in an orphanage on the alien world of Apokolips, and tutored by the harsh Granny Goodness into becoming leader of the Female Fury Batallion, enforcers for the world's leader Darkseid! Marya lived in a remote area of Mexico, until she encountered allies of the Axis Powers threatening her home. Meeting and teaming up with Wonder Woman, she overpowered her oppressors and left for America with the Amazing Amazon.

Barda befriended Scott Free, the son of neighboring planet New Genesis' Highfather, who had likewise been held hostage with her in the orphanage. The two eventually escaped this cruel world, and migrated to Earth-One, where they became performers and freedom fighters. Barda eventually fell in love Scott, also known as Mister Miracle, and the two soon married. When not performing as an escape artist and his assistant, Scott and Barda battled several threats sent by Free's adopted father Darkseid.

Marya accepted a scholarship to Holliday College of Earth-Two, where she joined the Holliday Girls while working on the side as a lifeguard. She would again be called to action, assisting Wonder Woman battling the Axix Powers in Africa. Another Marya, who was a leader of the planet Eros, had previously met Wonder Woman when the superheroine visited her world. What if any connection between the two Maryas is unknown, although that world had dream duplicates of Earth humans and reflected much of Apokolips'  own warlike nature.

Brave Bugs Boldly Battle Baddies

Forager and Red Bee were seemingly footnotes alongside their fellow superheroes, however each had courageous dispositions that made them models for their more powerful contemporaries. Both had prime athletic attributes and weaponry as well as the ability to community with insect life.

Forager was a member of a "micro-life" on the surface of the planet New Genesis. However, he was noted for independent thought and a more human disposition like those of the floating Super Town floating above the surface of his world, which led him to join the so-called "New Gods" in defending Earth-One time and again from the invasions of Darkseid's forces.

Red Bee was really assistant district attorney Richard Raleigh who discovered his ability to mentally control bees. Adopting his costumed alter ego, after a series of solo adventures he was recruited first into the All-Star Squadron and shortly thereafter into the Freedom Fighters, wherein he along with his allies left behind their native Earth-Two to aid the hero-less planet of Earth-X. Red Bee gave his life to protect his teammates from the onslaught of the evil Baron Blitzkrieg.

Matchless Misters Make Marvelous Men

Scott Free and Terry Sloane were marvelous men indeed. Each of them were the pinnacles of human perfection and a match for their worlds' Batmen.

Free was the son of planet New Genesis lord, the Highfather, and was traded with the son of his world's arch-enemy in a peace deal. This led to his being raised in bondage on planet Apokolips, until alongside his future wife Big Barda he rose up against his adoptive father Darkseid. Arriving on Earth-One, he took up a career as a master escape artist and part-time superhero as Mister Miracle. He would be aided by his future wife, the super strong Female Fury known as Big Barda, the counterpart to Earth-Two's Marya aka the Giant Girl who like Barda had super-strength and was a member of a female fighting force, the Holliday Girls.

Sloane was a wealthy genius with superb athletic abilities, bored with life, until he was motivated by future girlfriend Wanda Wilson into adopting a superheroic career as Mister Terrific. This led to his membership in the All-Star Squadron and Justice Society of America of Earth-Two. His most steadfast partner would be girlfriend Wanda Wilson, counterpart to Earth-One's Adeline Wilson who was also like Wanda a capable assistant to a costumed vigilante... in Adeline's case Deathstroke the Terminator aka husband Slade Wilson.

Both Misters were Olympic level athletes, excellence with hand-to-hand defense, and could escape nearly any situation they faced. While Scott eventually found freedom from oppression from Darkseid, Terry perished at the hands of his old foe Roger Romaine after a lengthy costumed career.

Additionally, there were others who had their aliases. Thaddeus Brown, renowned escape artist and Scott's mentor, was the original Mister Miracle. And a lad named Shilo Norman would become Free's apprentice and assume his alter ego years later. Mister Terrific enlisted others to stand in for him and a villain adopted his alias later on.

All in the Family: Highfather and Uncle Sam Bend Time and Space to Keep the Peace

Two centuries ago a hero was born on Earth-Two in the form of the so-called "Spirit of America". After merging with several heroes throughout the centuries, this Spirit eventually recruited a man named Samuel into becoming the latest incarnation of Uncle Sam, just prior to World War II. This Sam found his cosmic twin in the form of Izaya who as the Highfather of the planet New Genesis, guided by an unknown entity known as the Source, Izaya also has vast superhuman powers. As for the Spirit, his doppleganger in Earth-One's universe was the Kryptonian scientist turned Phantom Zone prisoner Nam-Ek.

Using his perception of time and space, Highfather led his so-called New Gods of the floating Supertown in the extra-dimensional realm where his world New Genesis and that of planet Apokolips resided. The ruler of that adversarial world, Darkseid, struck up a tenuous peace with Izaya that sometimes broached conflict on the adjacent Earth-One, where both his and Darkseid's forces at times resided. He has various protégées such as the youths Esak and Fastbak as well as the flying energy emitting woman known as Jezebelle of the Fiery Eyes. 

Using his perception of time and space, Uncle Sam was able to see danger on the horizon of a parallel world to his own, Earth-X... which had no heroes of its own. Over a period of a year, Sam would recruit three different groups of costumed crusaders to join him. Is former protégés such as Johnny Reb and Billy Yank as well as the flying energy emitting woman known as USA remained behind on Earth-Two.

In attempting to save this new world, Sam was secure in the knowledge that his own planet was well protected by its assembled might of the All-Star Squadron. These Freedom Fighters would remain together for decades, battling Nazi oppression alongside his surviving allies. Once their long-lasting conflict was resolved, Sam and his surviving allies journeyed to Earth-One and Earth-Two for brief visits to those worlds.

Nam-Ek was a scientist seeking a portion to grant one immortality. To the end, he captured a beast known as a Rimbor which on Krypton was a protected species due to hunters slaying then in order to obtain their healing horns. While his concoction did indeed provide him with enduring life, it came at a cost as it transformed him into a Rimbor/human hybrid. After isolating himself from his fellow man for centuries, when he reappeared just prior to the destruction of Krypton, the so-called Antibiotic-Man was exiled into the Phantom Zone. Though reappearing in time to warn Superman of a plague unleashed upon Earth-One by an old foe, Nam-Ek was returned to the Zone following this due to residual madness that consumed him. Although he would reappear on occasion to menace his fellow criminals and  trouble Superman, Nam-El eventually ceased to exist.

Interestingly, another version of Uncle Sam helped Ibis the Invincible to defend Earth-S from an invasion of creatures origination in the “Land of Legend”. This dimension was perhaps the same as that of Eternity where Kid Eternity also called upon variants of Sam’s Quality Comics compatriots Blackhawk and Plastic Man. It is presumed that other superheroes (from the Quality Comics publications) of the 1940s also resides in that Earth-S adjacent land with Sam.

Parallel Plagues of Planets: Apokolips versus Earth-Two times Two!

Darkseid was a persistent threat towards Earth-One, which he believed was the key to victory against his world Apokolips' eternal adversary, the planet of New Genesis. Since this Earth was in a dimensional plane adjacent to both warring globes, it was easily accessible. However, what he failed to account for was the presence of superheroes there, hence he created the Secret Society of Super-Villains to combat them. When this too failed, Darkseid ultimately saw another road to triumph.

When he had been seemingly shunted into non-existence after a battle with his son Orion, in fact Darkseid was sent to Earth-Two where he met members of the Injustice Society. Seeing a new universe separate from New Genesis, the malevolent master of malice attempted to shift Apokolips into position where Earth-Two existed, destroying the latter world and securing an entire universe with which he could plunder.

This was not the first occasion when Earth-Two had been threatened, as the alien world of Asgard infringed on this planet in 1945 due to the machinations of that world's Adolph Hitler in his last ditch effort to seek vengeance against his opponents. The Justice Society of two worlds defeated him, as a future version of the Society merged with Asgardians to carry on a fight with Darkseid's doppleganger as had the New Genesisians decades later.

Darkseid was under the false belief that there were no dopplegangers in the Earth-Two universe of his old foes known as the New Gods. In fact, there were, individuals such as Uncle Sam (instead of Highfather Izaya), the Ray (instead of Lightray), Human Bomb (instead of Infinity Man), Mr. Terrific (instead of Mr. Miracle), Fury (instead of the Female Fury known as Big Barda), Red Bee (instead of Bug), Magno (instead of Orion) and so forth. While those counterparts were natives of the Earth of their universe rather than an alternate New Genesis, they were just as powerful and just as heroic. 

In an alternate timeline where the Multiverse was reconstituted, another Earth-Two and Apokolips faced one another, and in this reality Darkseid's world in fact entered Earth-Two's universe and destroyed that planet... despite the best efforts of a third Justice Society. Or was it?
