Corrupt Chronol Clones Cause Cosmic Crisis

The sinister scientists and aspiring authoritarians, T.O. Morrow and Per Degaton, each borrowed technology allowing them to pierce back the veil of time. Borrowing from the intellectual advancements of other more honorable men, Morrow and Degaton. 

Futurenergy helped formulate five chronal clones based on five love interests of the Justice League, in order to ensnare half of its membership. These were Steve Trevor, Jean Loring, Shayera "Hawkgirl" Hol, Midge, and Mera... whose identical appearance to the originals helped lure Wonder Woman, the Atom, Hawkman, Snapper Carr and Aquaman into kissing them. This caused each Leaguer to fall into a comatose state, leaving the remaining members to face automatons replicating old adversaries of the League. Among these, there was a sixth chronol duplicate who appeared in Doctor Light. Once each served his or her purpose, they were promptly erased from existence, while the original five romantic partners of the League were unaware of what transpired to the loves of their lives.

Temporal causality from Per Degaton's time machine, which he stole from Professor Zee, allowed him to pull sixth supervillains from the late 1940s back to December of 1941. These included Per Degaton himself, Wotan, Professor Zobar Zodiak, Sky Pirate, King Bee and the Monster (a seventh cloned creature, Solomon Grundy, was actually the doppelgänger of the Earth-One Solomon Grundy spawned by the Parasite decades later). Due to chronol energy, these crooks were able to exist simultaneous to their younger selves, who were existing in the same time period unaware of these events transpiring. All of these criminals except the Monster were able to ensnare their prey, leaving all save three members of the Justice Society in a comatose state*.

Eventually, thanks to the intervention of the Red Tornado who helped revive the Justice League, and Robotman along with the All-Star Squadron who helped rescue the Justice Society, both Morrow and Degaton were decisively defeated. As with Morrow's clones, Degaton's clones** were each erased from existence as they resumed their lives in the future from which they were originally plucked.

* The ensuing battle between the All-Star Squadron and Justice Society versus Degaton's minions mirrored the battle on another occasion between the Justice League and Queen Bee's Anti-Justice League. 

Crimson Creatures Creating Chaos

Ungara-One was famous for being home to the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814, Abin Sur. When their hero died on a mission close to Earth-One, where he crash-landed, a replacement was selected by Sur himself. Test pilot Hal Jordan proved a worthy successor, and early in his career saved the planet of his predecessor from the destructive path of a comet.

However, news of their champion Sur’s death left their society fragmented. This led to a world-wide civil war, with one side developing a deadly orbiting plasma satellite and the other attempting to defuse it. Instead, they inadvertently activated it, causing it to unleash its destructive energies which causes over one hundred million deaths as well as causing its planetary orbit to shift radically. This turned Ungara-One into a frigid polar planet.

Ungara-Two did not have the noble legacy of the Green Lantern Corps to draw strength from, and so adopted their more destructive tendencies earlier than their counterparts. Developing deadly globe-beings sent to Earth-Two, these caused that world to become a frigid polar planet. Doctor Fate tracked the origin of the globe beings to the shifting orbital world of Ungara-Two, where he quickly destroyed it an all its inhabitants!!!

As for Hal Jordan, he was more merciful, using his great power with help from fellow Green Lantern Arisia, to restore Ungara-One’s climate to normal. A key question remains. What caused Doctor Fate to be judge, jury and executioner of an entire globe? Did the inhabitants of this world remind Fate of someone else, who likewise in his eyes deserved no mercy?

It may have been Fate’s previous experience on his native world of Celia, the planet where he and his fellow Lords of Order originated. These Lords became obsessed with eliminating disturbances to this order, such as the Lords of Chaos. Among their agents was the Doctor's arch-enemy, Wotan!

In fact, like Ungara One and Two, the parallel planets of Gemworld (which by the 30th century had become known as planet Xerox) and Celia were indirectly instrumental in the affairs of Earths One and Two, respectively. While the greatest adversary to those of Celia was Wotan, his counterpart Dark Opal was even more effective, having conquered Gemworld. In fact, his legacy may have influence the evil Mordru by the 30th century, who had assumed Opal's throne having conquered Xerox.

Ironically, bringing this Twice-Told Tale back full circle, while the Abin Sur of Ungara motivated Hal Jordan into becoming Green Lantern, Wotan had for a time caused Alan Scott to rethink his role as Green Lantern after a battle between the two led to the tragic death of a young man.

Infinity Stones of the DC Multiverse

Just as there were six stones that each had unique powers granted to their possessors on Earth-616, so to on other Earths there were versions of these same objects with different names and distinct histories. Each of these were crafted from alien meteorites, and had profound impact on both Earths One and Two. 

The Guardians of the Universe concentrated emerald energy into a Central Power Battery on the planet of Oa, with portions of its energy siphoned off into thousands of miniature lanterns throughout the cosmos, used by the Green Lantern Corps in the Earth-One univese. A portion of this energy was transplanted into the Earth-Two realm which made the Starheart and the Council of Stars, protecting that universe. Hal Jordan and Alan Scott were given lanterns and their power rings.

The Star Sapphire was an object in each universe given to specific women who would become queens over alien races of immortal warrior women such as the Zamoran and Infanta. These sapphires allowed the user to traverse space and bend it to their will. Carol Ferris, Dela Pharon, Deborah Camille Darnell and an unidentified woman each used these gems.

Twin alien meteorites were formed into the Orb of Ra of Earth-One and the Hammer of Thor of Earth-Two. The Orb was capable of transmuting elements while the Hammer was able to manipulate the elements. While Metamorpho and Hawkman used these globes for good, Simon Stagg and Ultra-Humanite used them for evil.

Each Earth had their own Ruby of Life and Ring of Life, which had the ability to animate objects when worn by various men from around both Earths. The Ruby of Earth-Two was temporarily displaced by its owner Sargon from its native realm, but eventually returned from Earth-One when the effect of three such rubies corrupted him.

And then there was the distinct diverse gems known as the Black Diamond of Earth-One and the Powerstone of Earth-Two, which granted the owners such as Eclipso and Alexie Luthor to vast power of the mind. These gems brought forth evil in men like Bruce Gordon, Luthor and Ultra-Humanite.

Interestingly, when the Power Stone and Hammer of Thor were brought together, they increased in power. This was similar to when the rubies and rings of life were present together, especially with Green Lantern's Power Ring. 

There were two other sets of powerful gems which, when combined, gave their owners' tremendous powers. Within the Earth-One universe, in the Gemworld dimension, twelve stones existed that when harnessed together into a breastplate were a source of tremendous power. These included the following gems: amethyst, aquamarine, moonstone, sapphire, turquoise, emerald, opal, garnet, diamond, ruby, sardonyx and topaz. This breastplace gave the evil Dark Opal tremendous power, which almost enabled him to defeat Princess Amethyst and her colleagues.

 
Within the Earth-Two universe, these same gems were found on that world, and were likewise merged in an ancient mechanism devised to forge these together. These included the following gems: diamond, yellow topaz, emerald, bluish-white diamond, and garnet. 

With these stones combined, they made the Lifestone which could bring inanimate objects to life. With this. the evil Doctor Brett nearly defeated the Seven Soldiers of Victory, with the dormant statue of Atlas gaining sentience and battling the heroes. However, the Soldiers outsmarted Brett in the end. 

Dark Opal had previously used his considered power to torment the citizens of the interdimensional locale known as Gemworld, opposed by Princess Amethyst. His Earth-Two counterpart Wotan had similar abilities and sought to rule all reality, although he was repeatedly opposed by his arch-enemy Doctor Fate along with Inza Cramer Nelson, girlfriend and later wife to Fate’s alter ego Kent Nelson. Unlike Opal, Wotan turned to scientific gadgetry to supplement his innate abilities. Eventually, Wotan was imprisoned in a interdimensional reality mirrored by that of Gemworld, kept immobile seemingly for all eternity!

Both Dark Opal and Doctor Brett perished following exposure to these gems. What became of their gems following the defeats of the gems’ owners is unknown, although their potential for causing havoc is highly potent should they still exist somewhere within the Multiverse.

World's Finest Fearsome Foes with Flexible Faces

Joe Meach. Joe was a former stuntmen who nearly killed himself on a full-hardy stunt, until the World's Finest Heroes of Earth-One, Superman and Batman, saved his life. Superman felt pity for Joe, and obtained employment for him as a custodian of the Superman Museum in Metropolis, Yet despite this, Meach nursed a grudge towards his super-saviors whom he felt embarrassed him. 

One evening, a stray bolt of lightning struck a set of statues created in the image of several members from the 30th century Legion of Super-Heroes These were created in the 30th century using a duplicator ray, and given to Superboy as momentous. This process inadvertently transferred or replicated a portion of each member's powers into their respective statue, which imbued Meach with those exact powers as the green-faced Composite Superman! 

Composite Men’s predecessor was a frog-like alien who while visiting Earth-One observed both Batman and Superman in action, and decided to emulate them when he returned to his home world. Becoming Super-Batman, he used his shape-shifting powers to strike terror in his foes. It was the image of this hybrid hero which, thanks to Composite Superman's telepathy from Saturn Girl, seemed to inspire his own costumed appearance which he adopted using Chameleon Lad's shape-shifting abilities.

On Earth-Two, a Nazi scientist and spymaster named Zoltan founded Zoltan's Wax Museum, and used it as a front to store and transport captured intellectuals from America. This process involved encasing each man in a waxy substance which placed each person exposed to the process into suspended animation, so that when revived each scientist would retain their mental capabilities that would be exploited by the German government. Superman, Batman and Robin tracked Zoltan down, defeating him and freeing his hostages, resuming their normal lives. 

Sometime later, an alien adversary of the World's Finest Team named Xan sought revenge against the duo for their imprisoning his father, who died in prison. Xan revived Meach's Composite Superman alter ego. Superman, Batman and Robin were nearly defeated, until Meach regained his sanity and saved their lives at the cost of Composite Superman's own life. However, Xan would not stay captive for long, formulating a plan that would come to fruition years later!

Years after its former owner was captured, an unidentified museum guard (Joe Meach of Earth-Two) at Zoltan's Wax Museum grew insane, emulating various historical figures displayed such as Attila the Hun, Captain Kidd, Cesare Borgia, Genghis Khan, Goliath and Nero. Through some unspecified means, perhaps due to Zoltan's experimental waxing process, the guard gained abilities from each of the characters while wearing their costumes. The Justice Society battled each of his personas, which ultimately led to the guard’s death.

When Composite Superman reappeared years after Meach's death, neither Superman nor Batman could figure out how this was possible. In fact, Xan was able to travel through time, and expose himself to the same process which had earlier mutated his former pawn Joe. As a new incarnation of this villain, Xan soon tired of the Composite Superman alias, and assumed a new identity as Amalgamax. This time, the World's Finest Heroes recruited the aid of members of the Legion of Super-Heroes to aid in defeating him. 

Over a decade later, a museum aficionado named Roger Hayden of Earth-Two sought the long lost and recently recovered Medusa Masks. Each of these masks contained the ability to unleash a series of emotions, which Hayden exposed himself to through a special process which allowed him to internalized their power within his face. As the second Psycho-Pirate, Hayde pursued a criminal career opposed by the Dynamic Duo of the Justice Society, Doctor Fate and Hourman.

To combat the pair, the Pirate unleashed a variety of former foes of Fate. These included a synthetic version green-faced Wotan. This being possessed a variety of powers, perhaps even adopting some of those of his fellow fiends which Hayden spawned from his emotion-bubbles including the sinister second Starman, Mango, Mayoor and the fishman Nyarl-Amen. Despite this, this faux-Wotan and his master Psycho Pirate were ultimately defeated by the pair of heroes.

Museum Madmen Manhandle Manhunters

A night at the museum, decades before it was a successful movie, it was a concept that spawned two separate villains who bedeviled the World's Finest Heroes of twin earths. Each museum mastermind acquired tremendous abilities from statues capturing the essence of men's greatness.

On Earth-One, Joseph Meach was an unsuccessful stunt man whose last attempt at fame nearly cost him his life. Diving off a building into a plastic container filled with water, Meach was unaware that it began to leak, leaving only an inch of water to land in. Realizing this, Superman saved Joe, and tried to comfort the humiliated man by offering him a job at his museum.

As a maintenance custodian for the Superman Museum, Meach  nursed a grudge at his savior. He was also fascinated by miniaturized statuettes on display of the Legion of Super-Heroes, a 30th century team of which a young Superman as Superboy was  a member. Unbeknownst to them, the duplicator ray which created the statuettes caused each statuette to mimic the powers and skills of each Legionnaire copied.

When lighting struck the statuettes, Meach was bathed in their rays and gained vast superhuman abilities. Creating the alter ego of the green-skinned Composite Superman, Meach was intent on becoming the newest partner of World's Finest team, with the goal of humiliating Superman and Batman. In fact, Composite Superman was one of the only foes of theirs whom the heroes could not defeat, although on both occasions he faced them, his powers wore off after prolonged use. After his second appearance, Meach sacrificed his life to protect Superman, Batman and Robin from an attack by an alien named Xan, who revived Meach's abilities.

Tracking him down, Robin sent word to Superman to assist him in helping to free Batman. Together, the trio Zoltan and freed the remaining hostages, who resumed their normal lives. However, Zoltan’s wax museum would unleash another threat years later against the World’s Finest Heroes allies in the Justice Society of America!

That threat was an unidentified museum guard at Zoltan's Wax Museum (Earth-Two's Joe Meach) who grew insane, emulating various historical figures displayed such as Attila the Hun, Captain Kidd, Cesare Borgia, Genghis Khan, Goliath and Nero. Through some unspecified means, perhaps due to Zoltan's experimental waxing process, the guard gained abilities from each of the characters while wearing their costumes. The Justice Society battled each of his personas, which six of their members succumbing to his might before Wonder Woman and Black Canary helped save their colleagues Doctor Mid-Mite, Atom, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman and Johnny Thunder. Together, the revitalized Justice Society finally defeat this guard, who perished in the confrontation. 

Over a decade later, another museum exhibit unleashed a green-skinned threat in the form of a faux-Wotan, unleashed upon Doctor Fate and Hourman by Psycho-Pirate using the Medusa Masks. This synthetic being like Composite Superman possessed all the powers of the original he was based on, as well as abilities undoubtedly derived from other foes of Fate spawned at the same time by the Masks.

Similarly, a successor to the original Composite Superman was Xan, who exposed himself to the energies contained within the Legion statuettes, becoming the villian Amalgamax. Superman and Batman were able to defeat Xan with the assistance of  Colossal Boy, Shrinking Violet, Triplicate Girl, Brainiac 5, Lightning Lad and Invisible Kid... some of the Legionnaire whom he gained powers from previously!

Both the Composite Superman and the Pseudo-Wotan were fictional constructs brought to life by the imaginations of a pair of supervillains seeking to destroy Dynamic Duos of twin Earths. As were the power-mad personas postulated by a pair of innocuous museum guards disgruntled with life.
