So in the DC Multiverse, supposedly, we lived not on Earth-One... home of the silver age Justice League of America nor on Earth-Two... home of the golden age Justice Society of America. Instead, we lived on hero-less Earth-Prime, although later tales revealed that world had its own class of supermen, individuals who left their native Earth and dimension to bedevil the League and Society... in the form of Ultraa and Cary Bates. One was the sole survivor of a now extinct alien race, the other a comicbook writer. Each possessed vast and ill-defined powers, and for a time terrorized Earths One and Two before their misguided methods brought them first into the cross-hair of the Injustice Gang and Society before facing their respective new worlds' greatest heroes. Although possessing enough power to rival the combined might of these costumed crusaders, this pair of problematic hippies were vanquished by their vanity. And both retreated into comicbook limbo.
While Bates later returned to Earth-Prime, Ultraa remained on Earth-One in the outback of Australia, much as Captain Marvel who for an undefined period of time resided on Earth-Two, before returning to his native Earth-S after shaking off the control of Hitler's Spear of Destiny. And the long term addition of Ultraa to Earth-One's universe was offset but the premature loss of its Starman, Prince Gavyn who perish during the Crisis... while his doppleganger Prince Khufu lived longer unhindered by the effects of that Crisis.
As for Cary Bates, he would have a more extensive history traveling between Earths One and Two. In fact, there was extensive interaction between Bates, his pal and fellow writer Elliot S Maggin and their editor Julius Schwartz... and the Fastest Man Alive... as we'll cover in a future post.
