In the 20th century, an archaeologist named Adam Strange happened to be in the right spot to be hit by a strange beam of light. This light, known as a Zeta Beam, originated from the planet of Rann-One, and had been intended as a communications beckon to Earth-One by its creator, Sardath. Instead, it proved to be a teleportation beam, bringing Strange to Rann, where he gained the favor of its people with his quick thinking solutions and the love of Sardath's daughter and Adam's problem-solving partner Alanna.
In a parallel universe, Adam's cosmic twin was young Hop Harrigan, an orphan who found a knack for flying planes. As such, he soon became one of the premier aviators of his time during World War II on Earth-Two, when he was guided by the care of his guardian Prop Wash. At the same time, he began a romantic attachment with a rich heiress named Geraldine or Genny. Alongside his partner Ikky Tinker, Hop huad scores of adventures in his native America and abroad as well.
Early on in his cosmic career, Strange almost encountered members of the newly forming Justice League during their first case. However, soon thereafter he would aid the team against the criminal warlord Kanjar Ro time and again, and become an honorary member of the League. Soon therafter, Adam met future Leaguers Katar and Shayera Hol, the Hawkman and Hawkgirl of Earth-One. This would be the first of many team-ups between Katar, Adam and their wives throughout the years to come. Eventually, Adam and Alanna would marry once he was able to determine a means to stay on Rann-One for longer periods of time... and would succeed, for a time.
Harrigan had himself only had one chronicled tale alongside the Justice Society, although there are indications he may have met with and fought alongside the superhero mega-sized team, known as the All-Star Squadron. This might have also influenced his decision into adopting two superhero alter egos. The first was Guardian Angel, in a goggled mask clad in a winged jacket. The second was the Green Lantern-like Black Lamp. Neither costumed career lasted for long, with Hop reverting to his normal name most of the time. Eventually, Hop would with Prop and Ikky form the All-American Aviation Company, with whom he made a small fortune. Perhaps Hop's bitterest foe Professor Robomb and Adam's faithful father-in-law Sardath were bald brilliant men, but as counterparts their dispositions were dramatically different from one another.
A villain known as Okri-Ro threatened Rann-One which naturally involved Adam Strange, the terran troubleshooter who protected his adopted world from such threats. In the 22nd century, five devices were sought by Space Ranger to combat a horde of aliens invading his solar system, which led to his enlisting the aid of Adam's descendent. On one other occasion, this Adam Strange II teamed up with the Ranger. Who was his Earth-Two twin? This would Professor Rex Elliott Rockwell, an explorer who worked alongside reporter Astra on a few cases.
The guardians of Hop were flight engineer Prop Wash and housemaid Miss Snap, paralleling the adopted guardians of Linda Lee aka the Supergirl of Earth-One, Fred and Edna Danvers. Fred was himself am innovative engineer employed at S.T.A.R. labs, and along with his wife were confidants of their adopted daughter and her heroic alter ego... assisting her both through moral support and practical guidance alongside her still living parents Zor-El and Allura who lived in the miniaturized bottle city of Kandor.
While neither would make front page news on this home worlds, since Adam was mostly on Rann-One instead of Earth-One, and Hop's Earth-Two exploits weren't world-shattering, nevertheless the pair were notable for their spunky fortitude and insightful approach to solving problems.
