The Mystery of the Multiple Mischievous Midgets

Sugar and Spike had dozens of adventures, and later were joined by a third infant named Bernie. Together, the trio faced the evil Baron and his minions on multiple occasions, as the criminals attempted to claim the secrets that made these three babies special*. 

From an early meeting Sugar and Spike had with yet another baby, we learn the planet of their origin, Earth-Two. That baby was the son of artist Scribbly Jibbet, older brother to Dinky, who followed the exploits of his city's local protector. That heroine was secretly Ma Abigail Hunkle, whose daughter Sisty along with Dinky battled crime and corruption with her as the original Red Tornado and the Cyclone Kids. Red Tornado attended the first meeting of the Justice Society, attempting to join the team.

During two different crisis (Showcase #100 & Crisis on Infinite Earths #9), we see a Sugar, Spike and Bernie on Earth-One! This can easily be explained by Bernie's special device, which created synthetic recreations of all three of them. Around the time of their use, the Anti-Matter Man was partially responsible for an event wherein individuals of Earths One and Two exchanged places on each world. It appears that the robotic Sugar, Spike and Bernie on Earth-One (still youthful a decade later) were in actuality the automaton facsimiles. Additional robotic replicas of the kid’s remained on Earth-Two.

* While it may seem unrealistic that the seemingly implausible adventures of Bernie, Sugar and Spike took place on Earth-Two... it seems equally unrealistic that on Earth-One the tales of Bizarro Junior, Wonder Tot and Superbaby occurred... and yet they are said to have actually have happened!!! Sugar and Spike’s tales mirrored those of Chris and Vicki who gained powers when they Dial H for Hero.
