The Dark Knight detectives of Gotham during the 1980's, Earth-One's Batman and his counterpart's daughter the Huntress of Earth-Two, faced a pair of royally themed foes that managed to initially defeat the dynamic duo. The Monarch of Menace, an early enemy of Batman, was successful in a crime spree leaving the city with a fortune in stolen goods. The gang lord known as Stenville filled a void left behind with the death of the golden age Batman, until threatened twice... in his own home... by a grown-up Robin and his step-sister then by the Huntress alone. What drew Monarch back into his felonious lifestyle was his son attempting to impersonate him, only to be defeated by a young Robin. Stenville sought revenge of his female foe, equipping a lieutenant in his organization named Karnage with high-tech gear. While both Monarch's offspring and Karnage were beaten, the Kings of Crime themselves dawned medieval gear to face the Batman Family.
Monarch's electricity generating scepter, gas-released cape and hypnotic crown made him difficult to catch... while as the Crimelord, Stenville's electricity generating mace, chains and sword also proved a genuine threat to any facing him. However, Batman finally beat his Menacing foe not once but twice, years later, when the Monarch attempted to curry the favor (and cash) of the city's criminal element when they believed he had imprisoned a Batman that was simply out of town. During the Huntress' final clash with Crimelord, it was the weight of his own armor which toppled him from a ledge on his castle to his ultimate doom. And so, two royal rogues ended up gone and forgotten.
