Various gigantic entities, with equally massive egos, were empowered with tremendous cosmic awareness and energies as they came to Earth to judge it. On two occasions, Earths One and Two faced such adversaries, the first time for each those worlds experience epoch global disasters and the second time the encounter was more personal as insidious evil influenced normal men. Both times, their Worlds’ Greatest Heroes in the Justice League and Justice Society triumphantly rose to the challenge.
The Cosmic Tree from another world branched out to Earth-One, to conquer it for its people. Mutating seven different humans, among these was the leader of this Pantheon named Zeta. Using his indomitable power, Zeta even proved to much for the World’s Finest Team of Superman and Batman. When those two heroes recruited their teammates of the Justice League and Outsiders, these two groups fought valiantly to save this world. Eventually, the heroes convinced Zeta to uproot the cosmic tree, and usher in a new era of peace they could preside over on the tree’s native planet.
Master Summoner returned to Earth-Two after a millennia in order to test it once more. To this end, he first summoned Doctor Fate and Hawkman. warning them of their world’s impending doom. Behind the scenes, Summoner and his three shadowy henchmen orchestrated catastrophes and altered humans with the intent of overtaking the world. Sending the the Justice Society to deal with these threats to their globe, various members of the team around the world battled various metahuman threats. Then, the Society realized they needed to abstain from further actions which would alleviate the disasters, as the Summoner was drawing their own energies into the conflict. Overmaster was a gigantic alien lying dormant on Earth-One in seclusion, until a parasite merged with him creating the Overmaster persona. How long the two symbiotic being has been together is unknown, although the combined entity’s agenda was to test humanity’s best against its own creations.
His six human agents whom he transformed into his superhuman Cadre were: Shatterfist, Fastball, Nightfall, Black Mass, Crowbar and Shriek... possessing the powers of destructive energy, explosive baseballs, light and kinetic energy absorption, gravity control, metaphysical weaponry and sonic screams.
Members of the new Justice League of America first met individual members of the criminal Cadre as they began to appear. Eventually, the two teams faced off within Overmaster’s mountainous headquarters, revealed to be a covert spaceship after his defeat as it escape with its owner into outer space following his pawns’ defeat.
Calvin Stymes lured five old classmates into a trap during a camping trip, seemingly causing all five men to drown. When they soon after turned up alive, these men began criminal careers under the assumed aliases of the Wrecker, the Grim Marauder, Mister X, Professor Philpotts, and the Black Rider. Each utilized their natural abilities and technologies in their mew criminal careers making them tenacious adversaries for their heroic foes. Nevertheless, each one was dealt with by members of the Society, with Stymes perishing in a final confirmation with the team.
Years later, Koehaha would be used on these same heroes by their foe Ultra-Humanite, sending this sinister Society after their successors of Infinity, Inc. as with true Five Drowned Men, the Justice Society eventually regained their sanity.
