While the silver age Lana Lang initially used her ring out of vanity, and the golden age Lana utilized her broach out of insanity, soon they each settled into the alias of Insect Queen.
The Legion of Super-Heroes, in fact, noticed how valuable an ally Lang was to Superboy and recruited her as an honorary Legionnaire... joining them on more than one mission. On Earth-Two, Lana as Insect Queen assisted Superman on at least one occasion to deal with an alien invasion, after she had been previously used by Ultra-Humanite for one of his evil schemes.
On Earth-One, Lana arrived in Metropolis intent on stealing back the effections of her one-time beau, who now as Superman was in love with Lois Lane. Once, Lane actually acquired the bio-ring and struck out on her own career as Insect Queen until a femme fatale also briefly stole the device for greedy goals. Eventually, hired as an anchorwoman at WMET then WGBS, Lang retired her heroic career and fell in love first with alien hero Vartox then childhood friend Clark Kent (not realizing they were one in the same).
Her counterpart, after initially causing Lois some jealous feelings when Lana assumed her duties as Daily Star television critic, quickly gained her confidance and became among the Kents' closest friends throughout the years.
