Captain Kid was a recurring featurette in Captain Marvel Adventures which chronicled the adventures (or misadventures) of a costumed lad who protected his town of Swatsville in Podunk from threats both pedestrian and potent. But mostly the former. Inspired by his hero Captain Marvel, the Kid adopted an alias with Captain in it. And like Marvel, he could call upon a force of nature... a tornado... that gave him temporary super powers.
Another red haired teen titan was Al Pratt, who through physical training became the masked man known as the Atom. As the protector of Calvin City, the Atom's notoriety led to his being recruited into the Justice Society of America as a founding member, for which he served continuously for a decade alongside that team's chairman and his best friend, Hawkman.

Early in his heroic career, Pratt was exposed to radiation from the villain turned hero known as Cyclotron, and years later manifested superhuman strength and an "atomic punch", which greatly aided him in his crime fighting. In addition to this, once completing his college graduate studies, Al became a physicist and developed an atomic vibrator belt allowing him to pierce the walls between universes. There, he met his counterpart, the Atom of Earth-One who like Pratt and Kid was a college student turned superhero. However, this Atom aka Ray Palmer learned how to shrink and gained an atomic punch, which he used to protect Ivy Town.
Renamed Captain Caution, the former Captain Kid graduated from his juvenile crimefighting career and become a role model for a new generation of youths. As most superheroes of his era disappeared due to Doctor Sivana's Suspendium, reappearing two decades later, it was left to the Lieutenants to preserve the peace until their return.
