The subtle differences between counterparts sometimes come down to the decisions they make in their lives, which can cause them to diverge from one another in critical areas. Such was the case with two men named Larry Lance. The older version, on Earth-Two, was a scrappy private detective of Park City who met and fell in love with Dinah Drake. Dinah, as the Black Canary, aided the initially annoying Lance on his various cases... and she would eventually find that this was the man that completed her. After decades side-by-side as a happily married couple, even after the seeming death of their infant daughter, they finally found tragedy end their romance... as they fought alongside the Justice Society to save their world. At the cost of their very lives.
Yet it was their daughter, who had been kept asleep in the Thunderbolt Dimension due to her chaotic canary cry, was awaken when she was given her mother's memories. And it was those memories which caused her to believe she was the elder Dinah, and hence sought out Larry's doppleganger when she joined the Justice League on Earth-One. However, she was not the same as her mother, nor was this Lance the same as her father, for his career as a private investigator was a cover for his crooked capers as the crime-lord known as the Collector. Once Dinah learned of Lance's evil deeds as a kidnapper and extortioner, he was caught in the clutches of Black Canary and the Batman, which led to his demise at his own underhanded hands.
Still, the memory of the good Larry outweighed that of the evil Lance in Dinah's mind.
