Ellie Leeds and Susan Semple were girls from Earth granted amazing new abilities rivaling those of the Superman Family, and opening their minds to new realities
Ellie Leeds was the daughter of S.T.A.R. Laboratories scientist Jerry Leeds, who accidentally stumbled upon the landing site of Kara Zor-El's vessel sent from the doomed Argo City formerly of Krypton-One. Seeing a glowing speck of metal, Elle brought it back home and succumbed to its radiation. Over the years, it placed her in a slumbering coma while sustaining her with the nutrients necessary to prolong her life. Eventually, she awoke and recalled Kara's conversation with her cousin Kal-El, aka Superman, when first arriving on Earth-One. Believing herself to be Supergirl, Ellie displayed all the Kryptonian superhuman abilities as the original when first meeting the Maiden of Might.
Susan Semple was a switchboard operator for the newspaper that also employed Clark Kent and Lois Lane. After having a long term crush on her world's Superman, she eventually was drawn to a story as to the revolutionary invention of Professor Weirton that she used to gain superhuman powers. Gaining mighty mental abilities, she intended to use these to attract the attention of the caped crusader of Metropolis. As the "Girl of Tomorrow". Susan was able to use her mind-over-matter power to replicate Superman's vast strength and other attributes.
Piecing together what happened, Kara had the speck that was X-Kryptonite encased in lead preventing it from effecting anyone else. Ellie returned to normal and resumed her normal life, her brief "career" as Supergirl now finished.
As for Susan, she used her telepathy to discover the alter ego of Superman as Clark Kent, and threatened to expose his secret unless he married her. Realizing her powers would last for only 24 hours, Superman deceived her into thinking she had longer before losing them, and as such when her abilities faded so had her memory of the event. And she returned to her normal life reportedly thereafter.
