Edmund Blake was a sickly lad, with a terminal medical condition. While a
specialized operation could reverse his critical condition, the boy simply lost
the will to live. His physician diagnosed that only meeting his personal heroes,
the Justice Society, could restore within him the mental fortitude necessary to
recover. And so, after first meeting the team, then seeing four future adventures he would have with them, and finally his timely intervention in saving them... then Edmund's inner strength was renewed.
And so in 1954, four years after his first meeting the Society in 1949, as a page boy at Television City, Blake assists then active superheroine Wonder Woman and her retired teammate Black Canary in subduing thieves bent on stealing precious items while saving a guard's life. Four years later, in 1958, the retired due of Hawkman and Atom don their costumes once more in order to support Edmund during an important rowing competition of he and his collegiate classmates. When a large passenger boat tips over, Blake and his two Society pals save the lives of the submerged passengers from near drowing in the roaring river.
In 1963, following the return of the Justice Society to active duty after battling Vandal Savage, Green Lantern and Doctor Mid-Nite journeyed to Australia to meet up with Edmund. Blake, who was now a naturalist, While attacked and captured by a gigantic kangaroo, Edmund saved his fellow explorers while the costumed crusaders overcome the large beast. A month later, Flash assisted Edmund in tracking down and unmasking a mystery man disguised as her father who was tormenting Blake's fiancee Joan Nevins. Following this final tale, Edmund and Joan retreated to marital bliss, until years later when testifying at the congressional trial of the Society.
In the mid to late 1970s, young orphan Charlie Parker aspired to be like his hero, Hawkman. Due to a malfunctioning Mentachem wand of his own creation, the villian known as Matter Master subconsciously granted Parker's wish, giving the lad artificial wings which Charlie used as the Golden Eagle. Later, Hawkman gave the teen a pair of Thanagarian wings and an anti-gravity belt, which Eagle used to join the shortlive Titans West team that assisted the main Teen Titans versus Captain Calamity. Despite attempts to revive the Titans West while reuniting with other former heroes at Wonder Girl's wedding, Charlie ultimately decided to retire from superheroics.
