The legend of Medusa inspired two women, cosmic twins of each of in two separate universes, to use advanced equipment to manipulate men and maidens. Adopting the alias of Medusa, the Earth-One version never revealed her true identity, while the Earth-Two version was in reality Leslie Banks. Both women had a single confrontation with the Green Lantern of their respective worlds.
The Medusa who met Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern was the leader of an extra-dimensional race of warrior women who had mastered genetic engineering. Her realm was discovered by Jordan's arch-enemy, Sinestro, who along with his sister lured Medusa and her Amazonian assistances into a confrontation with Lantern along with his pals Green Arrow and Black Canary. Canary was able to reason with Medusa, who had Green Lantern in her grasp, freeing him for imminent peril.
The Medusa who met Alan Scott aka Green Lantern was the leader of a gang that had held the town of Baxton hostage. Along with his pal Doiby Dickles, the Lantern was able to evade Medusa's destructive glare and reveal the source of her abilities. Although initially thought to be Leslie Banks, the local orphanage's operator, Medusa's try identity was Banks' father Pop.
The Earth-One Medusa seemed to have living serpents for hair which could ensnare her prey, including Jordan. Her scientific acumen also allowed her to develop super-strong synthetic Amazonians. The Earth-Two Medusa had a portable short-wave transmitted which could project destructive pulses that could kill humans within its range. This Medusa also seemingly was capable of masquerading henchmen as stone statues, with proportional strength.
Neither Medusa reappeared after their initial appearance. However, at least one of the Harpies who were associates of the Earth-One Medusa reappeared shortly after. Reigniting her feud with Black Canary and Green Arrow who she had encountered during this adventure, that Harpy joined Queen Bee's Anti-Justice League in Earth-One's dimension, along with Sinestro. Once more, she was defeated by Black Canary. Corresponding Harpies invaded the Earth-Two dimension, attacking Paradise Island where they warred against Wonder Woman's fellow Amazonian in the 1940s during the height of World War II.
