Among the various superhuman powers on display throughout the Multiverse, perhaps none is more bizarre than... super-hair! And in these cases, blonde hair, both free flowing and fastidiously fastened!!
Godiva of England and Rapunzel of Fairyland were both seemingly born with long locks, which were not only surprisingly resilient and resistant to damage, but highly adaptable. Dorcas Leigh used her abilities to become one of the few costumed crusaders of Earth-One’s England. Meanwhile, Rapunzel only occasionally ventured out into the adjacent Earth-Two when it and Fairyland’s barrier briefly opened in late 1947.
Godiva assisted Elongated Man of the Justice League in deactivating one of the deadly devices implanted around the world by the amoral alien scientist Grax. Later, she was recruited by Doctor Mist into his Global Guardians organization, tasked with handling threats across Earth-One… such as during the Crisis on Infinite Earths when she worked alongside Ireland’s Jack O’Lantern. Rapunzel along with the good residents of Fairyland assisted the Justice Society in dealing with the evil Lorelei and her minions’ invasion of Gotham City.
While these heroines had the free flowing hair, another pair of blondes kept theirs more fastidiously fastened. Sugar Plumm was an infant when she first began to have improbably adventures, alongside her life long friend Cecil “Spike” Wilson. Like their Earth-One counterparts Vicki Grant and Chris King, Sugar and Spike were at times granted various superhuman powers through devices gifted to them by others.
The H-Dial given to Vicki not only gave her a variety of abilities, it granted her a freedom she had never before experienced. In her altered bodies, her hair was free flowing, and during her second transformation she mentioned how wonderful it felt to have wind flowing through her hair! Each of her alter egos had a number of different hair styles, and in most instances, she let her follicles flow freely… which seemed counter to her natural preference. Or was it?
As was later made evident, through some unspecified means besides the hairbands she wore, Vicki’s long hair was perpetually fastened into twin pigtails! Whether attending classes at school, playing on her girls basketball team, going out on multiple dates with Chris, or relaxing at home… her hair was always styled this way. Even with intense physical activity, each follicle stayed perfectly in place!
The only thing that could effect it was water, and then only temporarily as some loose strands of hair on her forehead were soon pulled back… on their own! Another time, when her hairband seemingly snapped off, her hair stayed remarkably together! But was this a natural power she somehow possessed, or something she seemed to be cursed with? Regardless, as a Dial-H for Heroine, Vicki finally got to experience the same feeling as Godiva and Rapunzel… and her personal hero Supergirl… letting her hair down!!!
Along Vicki’s various superheroine identities were: Futura · Sunspot · Ice · Grasshopper · Twilight, Mistress of the Dark · Windsong · Molecular Maiden · Hypno Girl · Midnight Wisp · Strato-Girl, Mistress of the Wind · Goldgirl · Alchemiss · Dimension Girl · Stellar · Ultra Girl · Starlet · Cardinal · Aniwoman · Thumbelina · Tiarra Star · Matter Girl · Echo · Ariel · Black · Weather Witch · Emerald Tiger · Rainbeaux, Mistress of Color · Hummingbird · Hydra, Goddess of the Sea · Hyptella · Sonik · Puma, the She-Cat · Sulphur · Sparrow Hawk · Kismet, Mistress of the Mind Wave · Plant Mistress · Sea`Mist · Harp · Pixie · Snowfall · Glass Lass · Unicorn · Queen of Hearts · Blue Biker · Weaver · Frosty · Tempest · Starburst · Spinning Jenny · Scylla · Sphera · Blazerina · Thundera · Monarch · Miss Hourglass · Sirocco, the Desert Wind · Infra-Violet · Gossamer · Fan · Visionary · Spyglass · Psi-Clone.
Although sadly, after each hour of power had passed, Vicki regained her normal hair. At least until her next hour of power arrived.
