At some point during his reign, Solovar was captured by humans outside the boundaries of the cloaked Gorilla City, and brought to Central City in the United States. Gaining the attention of Barry “The Flash” Allen, who helped him escape, the pair tracked down and defeated the rogue gorilla known as Grodd. Soon after, Grodd was able to replicate Solovar’s Force-of-Mind telepathic power, and was a threat both to Solovar and Gorilla City but also the Flash and the outside world.
Decades earlier, two scientists known only as Doctor Blink and Doctor Link hatched a scheme to develop the most invincible crime kingpin, imbuing a normal hoodlum with the brains of several criminals and attributes derived from a gorilla*, perhaps orignating from the African simian city who’s inhabitants are now immobilized stones. However, soon after exerting his dominance, Killer rid himself of the scientists who spawned him, and built a criminal empire time and time again. Each on each occasion, the hero known as Uncle Sam ultimately defeated King Killer.
On one occasion, Solovar also stood next to Superman when the king's city had been revealed to the world and sought acknowledgement of their right to exist alongside them. Eventually, he became both an ally and a friend to several Justice Leaguers, even being invited to the wedding of Ray "Atom" Palmar and Jean Loring. Eventually, it became apparent that knowledge of their city's existence with the outside world could pose a significant threat to these super-simians.
While Solovar remained noble and honorable, becoming an ally to humankind as he led his fellow gorillas, King Killer exemplified the worst in humanity due to his bestial nature.
* Just as a gorilla merged with a human to become King Killer on Earth-Two, Gorilla Grodd merged with a homeless man on Earth-One to remain the body he lost when captured by Solovar.
