Various threats conspired against the United States, from opposing nations to secretive societies. One is the preeminent threats were launched against the Americans by Scorpio Number One and Yellow Scorpion. These hood and cloaked criminal masterminds led their foreign forces against the USA, opposed by spandex clad protectors.
Number One and his organization Scorpio hatched a scheme wherein they lured the mutated human known as the Sponge, a creature formerly opposed by the Challengers of the Unknown and this fellow fantastic foursome known as the Sea Devils.
Yellow Scorpion and his Japanese organization sought more subtle means to subvert the American government. This scheme was overturned on two occasions by the Spider and his partner Chuck.
