Farmer Daniel Cormac came upon a little man named Fergus who, with the local Queen Maeve, gifted him a lantern of incredible power. Cormac become the protector of all of his native Ireland as Jack O'Lantern. Adopting an appearance intent on stricking fear in his opponents, Jack provided hope for the innocent. His device gave him diverse powers such as flight, smoke generation, size alteration and other effects at his finger tips.
He first encountered America's Green Lantern, whom he somewhat mirrored, when they saved Earth-One from an extraterrestrial threat. Both heroes' lanterns were developed by the same alien race originating on Maltus, although Green Lantern's mentors migrated to the planet Oa while Jack's mentors migrated to his world ages ago.
Jack was recruited into Doctor Mist's Global Guardians of Earth-One, and worked alongside England's Godiva during the Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Cab driver Doiby Dickles encountered a little man named Owen Cooley from Ireland who gave him special shoes the saved Owen's "uncle" Doiby from danger. Prior to this, Dickles had worked alongside Alan Scott and Alan's alter ego the Green Lantern.
At times, Doiby even dressed as a version of the hero, affectionately known as Devastatin' Doiby. While he did not possess a lantern of his own, as his world's version was a lamp on the possession of Wonder Woman’s friend King Moon O’Day, Doiby was given emerald flares he used in times of danger to call upon Green Lantern's assistance.
While never joining a team of superheroes himself, Doiby had on more than one occasion teamed up with Alan on cases involving Scott and his teammate in the Justice Society of America and on occasion, the war time All-Star Squadron.
