High-Flying Wannabees: The Other Winged Warriors

Madmen manipulating Mayan's mercilessly. This event happened on Earth-Two in the early 1940s, and again decades later on Earth-One. The two madmen in question were Telka the Silver Vulture and Featured Serpent, who sought to mentally control the populance. Enslaved by superstitions, the pair each held a Sheila hostage and attempted to sacrifice her... Shiera Hall and Sheira Sanders... who had visted Mexico. Thankfully, with the aid of their true love Carter Hall, aka the Hawkmen, they were saved. Accompanied by the Atom of their respective Earths, the Wingd Warrior vaniquished Telka and the Serpent, who never returned.

The Serpent had swooped through the skies of Mexico City during the early days of World War II in an effort to secure the interests of his nation in Latin America. This brought him into conflict with the All-Star Squadron, of whom the Atom, Hawkman and Hawkgirl were members. The heroes soon discovered that there were actually two Feathered Serpents, an imposter wearing an exo-skeleton, and the "real" one with seemingly superhuman powers.

It was ultimately revealed that both Serpents were counterfeits of the legend they were copying, Both were in fact German Nazi agents seeking to enslave the native inhabitants and bend them to their will.

Another pair of winged warriors apart from the Hawkmen and Hawkwomen were the Teen Titan's ally Azrael, who like the actual Featured Serpent had the ability to fly, and the same fashion sense. Or rather, lack thereof. While Azrael was at times a friend of the Titans and their member Lilith, whom he loved, he was alternatively a dupe of the evil Brother Blood off and on.
