Knight Ladies: The Light and the Dark sides of Justice in Phantom Lady and Nocturna

Nocturna was Natasha Knight, the daughter of a gangster, and thus a debutante due to his illicit riches. Phantom Lady was Sandra Knight, the daughter of a prominent senator, herself a debutante in a long established family. Each were women of the night, one evil one good yet both drawn to the side of justice that led to tragic lives thereafter.

Natasha was left with pigment damage due to a laser accident while stargazing as an amateur astronomer, and so become a cat burglar after dark alongside her step-brother Anton, She would later adopt the alter ego of Nocturna when both of them faced Batman. When she eventually fell in love with Batman and his alter ego of Bruce Wayne, they became the prey of Anton who as Night-Slayer nearly did so with her. While this was occuring, Natasha strangely involved Bruce in a custody battle over his step-son Jason "Robin" Todd, who would live with her for a time. Eventually, Knight while riding a hotair balloon during the Crisis was caught up into the anti-matter mists, and disappeared forever from Earth-One.

Sandra was given her dark-light projector by family friend Professor Davis, and she in turn would invite her astronomer cousin Ted to meet the scientist, and he would use one of Davis' devices to become Starman, She herself would become Phantom Lady, and eventually left her native Earth-Two during the Crisis to aid the hero-less Earth-X for decades during a perpetual war alongside her allies the Freedom Fighters. She would later temporarily move to Earth-One with her allies, then return to Earth-X realizing that was their true home.
