Each man was disgruntled at the fame and accolades given to two members of twin teams of Justice, Batman of the League's Earth-One and Wonder Woman of the Society's Earth-Two. And so, both recruited villains for hire to impersonate legends of old in an attempt to trap this protagonist pair that protected the poor. For Batman, this meant having enough muscle to also subdue his new team the Outsiders, while Wonder Woman herself was a one-woman army.
Maxie Zeus, crime lord of Gotham City previously frustrated in his attempts to elevate himself to god-like status (he was actually a delusional man), enlisted the aid of the Monitor who assembled the New Olympians. They were composed of Argus the mental strategist, Diana the tracker/archer, Proteus the shapeshifter, Nox the mistress of darkness, Volcanus the master of heat, and Anteus the super-strength. These Olympian imposters challenged Batman and the Outsiders at the 1984 Olympics stadium in Los Angeles, and were soundly defeated by the heroes in quick order despite their combined might.
Actor Medwin Footh recruited thespians with a criminal bent to impersonate Wonder Woman's foes of old. This greedy group consisted of Doctor Psycho the mental master, Cheetah the cat-burgular, the shape-changing Duke of Deception, Clea queen of the murky depths, Blakfu lord of the molten world below, and Giganta superstrong ape-woman. Not possessing the might of those for whom they were impersonating, they were swiftly dispatched along with their founder by Wonder Woman alone.
