Throughout DC Comics during the bronze age up until and shortly after the Crisis on Infinite Earths, there were several references to the cosmic balance. We previously considered Mallo's statement and his actions relating to the two Atoms of Earth-One and Earth-Two. Roy Thomas also speculated that "displaced cosmic energy" from the missing golden age Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Green Arrow would have to be filled with the newly created Young All-Stars.
Ultra-Humanite made a similar statement when his Secret Society abducted ten members of the Justice League and Society to upset the balance of heroes on his own Earth. This ties in with the migratory threads we've previously considered which shows why this blog exists and continues to explore the Multiverse of Mirrored Meta-humans.
The reason, incidentally, why all heroes from Earth-Two were removed instead of from Earth-One is quite simple. Of the ten heroes kidnapped and imprisoned in inter-dimensional limbo, six were Earth-Two natives while only four were of Earth-One originally, with Black Canary being the odd ball as she migrated to Earth-One years before. Had Ultra picked the reverse, no doubt all heroes from Earth-One would have been removed instead.
