Amos Fortune and Zobar Zodiak were two professors on Earths One and Two enticed into discovering unorthodox permutations of science to achieve their unethical goals.
Amos initially used the aliases of Professor Fortune and Mister Memory during battles with the Justice League of America, devising the means to effect probability and memories to his favor. Later, Fortune recruited his old childhood friends to become the Royal Flush Gang, with himself now the Ace of Clubs. Eventually, he returned to his Professor identity, combating his foes as a team and one-on-one vs Batman and Superman. His concept even inspired a new team of down trodden individuals Mona Taylor, Joe Carny, Wanda Wayland and Jack into donning the Gang's gear under the suit of spades. He later used normal civilians to create his own League, until Wonder Woman defeated him but outsmarting him, and thus causing his team to lose their siphoned abilities.
Zobar created bombs that caused random events to occur, typically resulting in his favor. Then, upon discovering that a man named Galio uncovered four ancient artifacts including the Philosopher's Stone, elixir of youth, secret of perpetual motion, and the Universal Solvent. As the Alchemist, he imprisoned the Justice Society of America in a trap he felt was secure, but later learned different. Despite having Zodiak's Alchemy Army and his various devices, Zobar had to flee and was sent back in time to work with Per Degaton's assemblage of villains during the early parts of World War II versus Superman, Batman and Robin, as well as the All-Star Squadron. A counterpart to Anton's evil League was menaces fabricated by the Master Summoner to attack the Society in the late 1970's, which they eventually beat.
Both men were exceptionally limber for men of their body mass, and each had egos larger than life. While themselves non-traditional professors using exotic means to achieve their criminal goals, their creative manipulation of probability in their favor wasn't a lasting disadvantage for their opponents. Hence, they were resigned to frustration throughout their careers.
