As we've previously discussed, the Batman Encyclopedia differentiated between the Batmen of All Nations and the Club of Heroes, with the former residing on Earth-Two and the latter on Earth-One. As such, duplicate pairs of several members existed on each world:
- The aforementioned Knight and Squire of Great Britain.
- Musketeer of France
- Legionnaire of Italy
- Gaucho of South America
- Ranger of Australia (a member of the Batmen but not Club of Heroes)
The adventures of these two teams diverged in their sole appearances. While wealthy benefactor John Mayhew of Metropolis created the concept of the Club of Heroes...even sponsoring their own headquarters... it was Batman himself who invited his protegee from All Nations to assemble in Gotham City where they faced "Knots' Cardine and his criminal cohorts.
No criminal faces the Club of Heroes, as each member performs individual feats to determine which will be elected club chairman. For the Batmen of All Nations, they continue to pursue Cardine who alludes them and seems to always gain the upper hand against Batman.
As things develop in each plot, another "hero" is spawned that is the cause for both team's dilemmas. For the Club, it is the mysterious Lightning Man who seems to show up Superman... when in fact he is a disguised Man of Steel effected by Kryptonite and subconsiously creating this alter ego! For the Batmen, it is Cardine himself who kidnaps and disguises himself as the Legionnaire, planting himself as a mole in the heroic team while his gang evades capture. Thankfully, both Batmen discover the truth and their allies adjourn at the conclusion of these cases, never to reassemble... sad to say.
