Frost had worked alongside Professor Martin Stein at a research laboratory, and developed affection for him which he did not return. Shortly thereafter, she was locked into a thermo frost unit which mutated her body into becoming the heat absorption powered Killer Frost. Seeking revenge, she found herself locked time and again in battle with Stein's alter ego of Firestorm of Earth-One. She was recruited briefly into the Secret Society of Super-Villains.
Brilyant was a school teacher and the daughter of a famed research scientist who invented "blue snow" which he bequeathed to her. Fueled by her greedy desires, Byrna assumed the alter ego of the Blue Snowman when her blackmail schemes drew the attention of the Wonder Woman of Earth-Two, thanks to the Amazing Amazon being tipped off by her friend Patsy Peters. The Snowman employed robots dressed like her, and after her defeat became allied with Villany Inc. with fellow female fiends.
When Crystal Frost eventually perished in a final clash with her arch enemy, Frost's friend Louise Lincoln assumed her identity and powers through similar means and resumed enmity with Firestorm and aided him during the Crisis on Infinite Earths before rejoining her evil allies. Back over on Earth-Two, Lincoln's counterpart was the second incarnation of the Icicle aka Cameron Mahkent, who was born a mutant with the ability to generate cold atmospheric effects from his body due to his father the golden age Icicle's prolonged use of his freeze technology. This Icicle would eventually join the Wizard's Injustice Unlimited before pairing off with his teammate Tigress as the two attempted to start a family together.
