Experts in the field of solar energy, Doctor Bruce Gordon and Hector Sanders Hall were both heroic men who faced tragic legacies. In their costumed identities, Gordon as Eclipso of Earth-One could emit darkness and destructive laser beams. Hall as Silver Scarab of Earth-Two could project light and destructive heat blasts.
Gordon during research on a remote island encountered the villain known as Mophir who infected him with an alien diamond which he scratched Bruce with. While Mophir died during this encounter, his legacy was taken up by Gordon's now evil alter ego of Eclipso, who would time and time again sabotage each of the Doctor's accomplishments such as Solar City and a solar jet designed for Ferris Aircraft.
Hall was still in college when he decided to embark on the career of a superhero, following in the footsteps of his parents Hawkman and Hawkgirl. As Silver Scarab, Hector became a charter member of the Infinity, Inc., although eventually he succumbed to an evil alter ego buried within him that seemingly claimed his life and became the new Silver Scarab in his place.
Hector's legacy could indirectly be tied to a scarab powered Pharaoh of ancient days, who's device was inherited by Earth-Two's Lana Lang who became the Insect Queen. This Pharaoh, unlike Mophir, was heroic. However the latest incarnation of Silver Scarab was evil, yet would perish with Hector being restored to his humanity once more.
