Daniel Cassidy was a special effects technician and professional stuntman who designed a battle suit armor for the main character in a movie named after him, the Blue Devil. Gaining superhuman physical attributes in addition to a special rocket trident that could emit blasts of energy as both a weapon and a means of flight, Cassidy soon became an unintentional superhero when merged with his suit. His young associate Eddie Bloomberg was inspired to create a similar armor as Kid Devil.
Max Mercury was a chemist and acrobat who incorporated his superhuman speed into his circus performance. At a certain point in his costumed career, he decided to assume the alter ego of Quicksilver, and used his abilities as a superhero. His power coupled with his talent allowed him to seemingly defy gravity. He was aided in his adventures by a young man named Hoo Mee.
Together, Blue Devil and his new sidekick Kid Devil battled a variety of threats in southern California, near their film studio, as well as meeting members of both the Justice League and New Teen Titans. Meanwhile, Quicksilver journeyed with other mystery men from his native Earth-Two to Earth-X during the Crisis on Infinite Earths, migrating to that world to assist as a member of the Freedom Fighters. At some point, he disappeared and was presumed dead... along with several of his teammates... by the team's leader Uncle Sam.
