Among the most persistent enemies of Bruce Gordon’s alter ego in Eclipso was that of Green Lantern… actually, two of them. Not long after being seemingly left adrift in outer space after a battled with Hal Jordan, the master villain returned. This time, he faced a second Green Lantern in architect John Stewart. Once more, Eclipso was driven to possess the solar powered jet developed by Bruce, coupled with his own murder moon satellite. As always, ultimate powers was the rogues ultimate goal.
Nevertheless, the ending remained the same, as Stewart was able to outmaneuver the master of darkness. Unlike Eclipso, John tempered the might of his light-based power with reasoning and strategy... and avoided being cosumed by hubris as had his amoral adversary.
This event again seemingly led to the death of Eclipso, although yet again the malcontent returned once more during the Crisis on Infinite Earth, perhaps plucked from a time prior to his battle with John and Hal. Or, perhaps, he was still kept alive by the evil within Gordon's heart.
A similar rivalry developed between Todd “Obsidian” Rice, son the original Green Lantern in engineer Alan Scott, and fellow teen titan Hector “Silver Scarab” Hall. Shortly after Lantern and Scarab clashed, when the former was consumed by evil in the waters from the Stream of Ruthlessness, Todd and Hector clashed over the alien Chroma. These two sons of Justice Society members was undoubtedly partly fueled by each of them seeking to step out of the shadow of their forebearers.
The malevolent Chronoa blinded most people who listened to him, mentally controlling them, an effect which Obsidian was immune to. Thankfully, the young hero was able to expose Chroma’s true agenda, and the alien left Earth-Two behind. This saved humanity from the self-destructed thoughts imparted upon them by Chroma. And peace was restored between Obsidian and Silver Scarab... at least, for the time being.
