The On Earth-One, Sino-Supermen were China's attempts at replicating the superheroes who primarily appeared in the United States since the 1960s. Believing these heroes to be artificially produced agents of the America government, the Chinese Communist Party enlisted the aid of their chief genetic scientists to create their own derivatives on their Superman Factory. Among those developed were versions of Superman, Batman, Supergirl, Green Lantern, the Flash and Firestorm. An unfortunate side effect to the procedure was that, within seconds after using their powers, the Sino-Supermen exploded as their bodies were unable to contain the energy stored within them.
Congresswoman Barbara Gordon discovered this secret program, and learned of her long lost brother Tony’s connection to this agency as a U.S. agent seeking to expose their existence. As Batgirl, she battled the Sino-Supermen alongside Tony, whom their leader Wo Fong believed had information of their true nature which he smuggled back to America. Tony worked under an assumed alias to escape their detection, but once revealed he assisted Batgirl, soon after giving his life to save her.
The Sino-Supermen program was seemingly discontinued, as they never reappeared. In fact, the only known metahuman protector in that region was on the island of Taiwan, although the origin of Thunderlord’s powers do not seem to be connected with this program, nor would he be aligned with the mainland Chinese regime.
On Earth-Two, adventurer Tex Thomson had also encountered the means to transfer the human mind into a simian body when he met Doctor Kichung and his hench-apes in the far-eastern city of Sung-Wei. Doctor Kichung was a similarly twisted genius from an Asian country, presumably China, who operated on the brains of his minions, placing them into bodies of apes such as Koyto and Yong.
Soon after encountering these evil entities, Tex and his companions fled the scene in Asia where Kichung and Kyoto terrorized the locals, figuring these creatures were dealt with, which in fact seemed to be the case as they never were heard from again.
Back over on Earth-One, Congo Bill eventually became employed with World-wide Insurance Company, and became the guardian of Janu the Jungle Boy who was a lad who lost his parents in the African Congo. Still later, Bill was given a ring by his old friend Kawolo which allowed him to transfer his mind into the body of Congorilla, a powerful golden simian. As Congorilla, Bill would have a few adventures on his own and later alongside the Earth-One Superman.
