The “Iron Curtain of Time” was a barrier erected by the enigmatic Time Trapper, in order to prevent humanity if the 30th century from using their temporal technology to traverse time beyond their near future. This attracted the attention of the Legion of Super-Heroes of Earth-One, who continually tried to crack this barrier to no avail, leading to a long-running conflict with its creator who became their mortal enemy. He eventually employed a Time Trapper imposter... Science Police Commissioner Wilson... and later an alien Controller from another universe, each of whom impersonated the real Malevolent Master of Moments. The traditionally garbed Shining Knight, once clad in a purple robe, was undoubtedly the clone of the original Knight whom Justin encountered during the Legionnaires meeting with Willie Wisher and his mythical lands. Spawned in a fabricated realm manifactured by the reality-bending trickster, when Justin and his fellow Seven Soldiers of Victory tricked Willie into wishing himself away, this duplicate Shining Knight remained and was temporally displaced to the mid 1970s, soon after his doppelgänger arrive in that era.
This clone was the counterpart of the original Time Trapper, working behind the scenes while his pawns Commissioner Wilson and the renegade Controller were sent to duel with the Legion of Super-Heroes on multiple occasions. His first appearance was as Ty M. Master in the 20th century was when he tormented Wonder Woman, although her future Justice League teammate Superman encountered him a thousand years in their future when he traveled to that time as Superboy, helping his Legion colleagues to repel Time Trapper’s attacks. And the villain would reappear once more to face Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Super Friends, at which point it as confirms that this era’s Time Trapper as well as Ty M Master and the Legion’s foe were the imposter. Meanwhile, the original Time Trapper remained behind the scenes, pulling the strings before facing the Legion of Super-Heroes himself.
* This would explain why, after accompanying the Justice Society back to the days of Camelot, he abandoned his seeming allies.. since this was a faux-Shining Knight and not as noble as the original!
