The “Iron Curtain of Time” was a barrier erected by the enigmatic Time Trapper, in order to prevent humanity if the 30th century from using their temporal technology to traverse time beyond their near future. This attracted the attention of the Legion of Super-Heroes of Earth-One, who continually tried to crack this barrier to no avail, leading to a long-running conflict with its creator who became their mortal enemy. He eventually employed an agent known as Commissioner Wilson and later an alien Controller from another universe, each of whom impersonated the real Time Trapper.
In the parallel reality of Earth-Two, a founder of the Time Trust in 1941 named Doctor Doome used his temporary technology to battle Law’s Legionnaires. Among their members was Sir Justin aka the Shining Knight, a warrior lost in time who slept in suspended animation for centuries from the days of King Arthur and Camelot. After returning from another journey through time, when he and his allies were sent to past eras, he later appeared on the 1970s and sought the means to traverse time. As a robbed figured reminiscent of the Time Trapper, Justin nearly obtained the means to control time itself in a middle eastern market, before the enlisting the aid of the Justice Society to travel back to Camelot. And yet, while he returned to his native time period, another Shining Knight resembling his modern appearance remained in the 20th century!

The traditionally garbed Shining Knight, once clad in a purple robe, was undoubtedly the clone of the original Knight whom Justin encountered during the Legionnaires meeting with Willie Weeper and his mythical lands. This clone was the counterpart of the original Time Trapper, working behind the scenes while his pawns Wilson and the Controller are sent to duel with the Legion.
