Higher education doesn't always translate to an enlightened individual, nor much common sense. To wit, take our teachers of trouble.
Headmaster Mind and Professor Million each possessed tremendous aptitude in strategy. Headmaster was truly evil, taking on the combined Justice League of Earth-One including Green Arrow not once but twice, as well as Arrow's sidekick Speedy and his Teen Titans then Wonder Woman and Wonder Girl on a latter occasion. Enlisting the aid of disgruntled super-criminals and some technology, he was still outwitted by his opponents.
Professor Million was a bit different, as he was a good-hearted college professor seeking the financial betterment of his institution by instructing criminal gangs on three occasions to circumvent the watchful eyes of Earth-Two's Green Arrow and Speedy. After each misadventure, Million regretted his poor decisions and was allowed to continue in his field despite being caught red-handed by the amazing archers.
