Assistant District Attorney Larry Jordan in his alter ego as the Air Wave battled a wide variety of foes.
His son high school student Hal Jordan had an equally odd-ball array of adversaries as the second Air Wave*. While each rogues gallery was unique from one another, there were a few points of similarity for comparison, each on their own Earth. But how could this be?
It should be noted that Larry "Air Wave" Jordan originated on Earth-Two. There, he became a member of the wartime team known as the All-Star Squadron, and became a teammate of Alan "Green Lantern" Scott, among others. Then in the late 1940s, Larry migrated to Earth-One in order to assist on that hero-less world. There, he met and fell in love with Helen Jordan, cousin of Hal "Green Lantern" Jordan, and together they had a son in Hal.
Tragically, Larry perished when confronting a burglar in his home, with his death avenged by Helen who donned the experimental Air Wave costumed which Larry recently developed. This advanced on his earlier technological advances, and would later be given to Hal when the lad became the next Air Wave.
The golden age Air Wave's most arch-foe was the robotics scientist known as Professor Gurn. His counterpart was the equally malevolent Professor Arnold Hugo who menaced the Martian Manhunter. Each used mechanized units against their foes, although they weren't a match for their opponents each time they faced these caped crusaders.
A two-time foe of the modern day Air Wave was Sunspotter, who like his counterpart the Hawkman enemy Sunspot Wizard, could manipulate sunspot energy. As with Gurn, the Sunspot Wizard never met his world's Air Wave.
On Earth-Two, Larry's other adversaries included Doctor Silence with his sound nullifying device, the Parrot with his expert vocal mimicry and the master ventriloquist known only as the Talker. Each man used sound waves in various robberies that were ultimately thwarted by Air Wave, himself the master of sound.
On Earth-One, Hal's other opponents consisted of Master-Tek with his broadcast-directing device, the space-cowboy Cosmic Corsair, and the helmeted alien agent/school teacher Arrhnyr. These men used transmitting technology yet were outsmarted by the teenage Air Wave, matching the legacy of his father.
One enemy of the 1980's Air Wave would have actually been an ally of the 1940's Air Wave, had they met! This is engineer Casey Jones. On Earth-One, Casey developed a flying locomotive, which he employed to steal a prized golden train in San Antonio. When Air Wave defeated him, he sought an alliance with Superman's foe the Parasite, who granted Jones the powers derived from Air Wave's suit. Despite combining forces, the villains were no match for their heroic foes.
On Earth-Two, Casey Jones wasn't as inventive although he was far more noble, and protected his locomotive during its trips to Chicago on three separate occasions.
